Escape routes
Fire escape stairs for flats and businesses around Bromley
When a building needs a second way out, it needs one that a fire officer, a building inspector and an insurer will all accept. We design escape stairs to the current regulations, make them in galvanised steel and fit them with the paperwork to prove it.

Who needs one
- Flats above shops and offices where the only stair comes down through the commercial unit.
- HMOs and small blocks of flats being brought up to the licensing standard.
- Offices, clinics and schools adding a first-floor escape route or replacing a condemned stair.
- Pubs, restaurants and function rooms with upstairs areas that need a protected exit.
- Buildings with an old iron or timber escape that has rusted, rotted or was never compliant.
What compliant means in practice
An escape stair has to be wide enough for everyone who might need it, have treads and risers within the sizes set out in Approved Document B and K, guarding that cannot be climbed or fallen through, a handrail on each side where required, non-slip treads, and landings at doors so nobody steps straight out onto a stair. It also has to be fixed to a structure that can carry it and, in some cases, be separated from windows and openings in the wall it passes.
We check all of this at the survey and show it on the drawing. If the building control officer or the fire risk assessor wants something specific, we build to that.
Made to last outside
Escape stairs are used rarely and inspected often, so they have to look sound for decades. Ours are hot-dip galvanised after welding, with open grating treads that shed water and ice, and can be powder coated to fit in with the building. Fixings are stainless or galvanised and we supply a certificate of conformity with every installation.
Landlords and managing agents
We are used to working around tenants, arranging access, and providing the drawings, method statements and certificates you need for your file. One quote covers survey, design, fabrication, galvanising, coating and fitting.
