Will my staircase or balcony need planning permission?
Often not for a rear staircase on a house, but balconies and anything on a listed house or inside a conservation area usually do. When we come to measure, we look at the planning side for your address, and if you need an application, we draw it up for you. How long does a staircase take from order to fitting?
Once you approve the drawing, making, galvanising and powder coating normally take a few weeks. Fitting is usually a single day. We give you a date when you order and keep to it.
Is a galvanised finish enough, or do I need it painted?
Hot-dip galvanising protects the steel for decades on its own and looks fine as a silver-grey finish. Most customers add powder coating for colour, typically black, anthracite or a shade matched to windows and doors.
Can you replace a rotten timber staircase with steel?
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do. We measure the existing stair, design the steel replacement on the old footprint or a larger one, remove the old one and fit the new one, usually in a day.
Do you work for landlords and managing agents?
Much of our work is fire escapes and access stairs for flats above shops, HMOs and small blocks. We provide drawings, a fixed price and a certificate of conformity for your file.
